Story City Community ...
Story City Iowa Community InformationStory City real estate captures everything that is great about the state of Iowa and the entire countryside known for its ties to the historic past. The name Story “City” is actually rather misleading, considering that this town has a population of just over 3,000. It is very much a family town, with a large percentage of the population under 18. It's no wonder, though, since the quiet nature of the area makes it the perfect place to raise children while working in one of the nearby cities such as Ames or Des Moines. Until 1857, the town was known as Fairview. The name changed when the first post office was built and town officials discovered that they were not the only Fairview in existence. The town was renamed after Joseph Story, a justice in the Supreme Court. Like other communities in the area, the railroads played a large part in the town's formation and future. Even today, Story City is connected to larger cities by two different railroad companies: Des Moines & Minnesota and Chicago & Northwestern lines. Living the Good Life in Story CityThough small, Story City homes for sale offer a lot to families of all shapes and sizes. A number of small festivals and celebrations unique to the town occur throughout the year. Each event is a fun way to get out and spend some time with your new neighbors. Story City homes tend to be located fairly close to everything else in town, so it's easy to get to festivals even if you are walking. There are some pleasant areas for a stroll, as well. One of the top attractions at Story City is the antique carousel that dates back to 1913. It still runs during the summer months, staffed by volunteers who charge a dollar a ride. The ride is made up of hand-carved animals that include 20 horses, two chariots, two dogs, two chickens, a spinning tub, and a pair of pigs. Even the music is antique, played on a 1939 Wurlitzer Military Band organ. The carousel has been completely restored, right down to remixed paints to match the original colors. In addition to the carousel and festivals, Story City holds a celebration called Scandinavian Days each year. The festival is designed to allow Story City home owners and visitors alike to enjoy the heritage of the area. Events include concerts, live performances by acting groups, a car show, and a number of other fun activities. Of course, food plays a large part in the celebration, as well. Story City Homes for SaleOne of the best things about Story City real estate is that there is great variability in your options. Retirees looking to get away from the faster pace of Des Moines life can benefit from a Story City condo right in the middle of the town's center. Homes in Story City range from large houses with acreage to neighborhoods that make the most out of raising a young family. There are many reasons to invest in Story City real estate. The town is small enough to feel sheltered and far away from the busyness of it all, but close enough to neighboring cities that you aren't completely isolated. The community is something special, as well. There's nothing like living in a town where safety and family come first. Our friendly and family-focused realtors already know what's great about Story City real estate.
